Pupa by Gio Flor de Guineo Keychain
The banana is one of the most cultivated fruits in the world and it’s very present in the Latin-American culture, despite not being a native plant to the Americas. It is thought to have been brought to Puerto Rico after the Spanish colonization of the island in the 1500s. We celebrate a festival in the town of Lares known as Festival Nacional del Guineo, which offers many dishes made of banana and showcases the different varieties cultivated in the island which are an important part of our diet.
Although its arrival to our lands provoked the use of pesticides and monocultures, during the 20th and 21st century, this plant ended up being a symbol of identity to many Latin-American cultures. Keychain details:
