You can never lose sight of a tree like the ortegon: large, oval leaves, accompanied in the spring and summer by long spikes with a striking red color. The ortegon is an endemic tree of Puerto Rico that can only be found on the coasts or mountains of the islands. Its showy spikes can measure between 4 and 12 inches long. Its scientific name, Coccoloba rugosa is due to the wrinkled appearance of its leaves, which can measure 2 feet wide. Always ready to give greenery, flowers and fruits.
