The Bananaquit occurs in the American tropics and the West Indies. It is one of the most common resident species in Puerto Rico and can be found in most habitats including urban areas and gardens, from scrubland to tropical lowland forest edges. In Puerto Rico it's cherished by our people since it tends to visit people's homes and gardens. To some families its presence in their homes is a sign of good luck.
